Summer Updates from Attorney Neufville – Our Summer RISE Intern

This summer, The Law Office of Edward W. Neufville, III LLC had the fantastic opportunity to enrich our workplace and contribute to the growth and development of a bright young mind in our local Montgomery County Maryland School District. We welcomed our second summer RISE intern into our office and were thoroughly impressed with this bright young girl.

The Summer RISE Program is an initiative led by the Montgomery County Public Schools that provides students with a career-based opportunity to engage in hands-on learning experiences related to their field of interest.

Hosting a summer RISE intern was a transformative experience for the student and our team. We provided the summer RISE intern with a unique opportunity to get exposure to the field of her interest. In the end, the summer RISE intern completed an end-of-the-program evaluation and had this to share:

“Having completed the internship, I can now say that I don’t think my passion for law ever died out. There are many fields of law, most of which I’d never even consider. But working at this firm and learning so many things about the broken system of immigration in the U.S. reminded me of what I used to think about as a child. It reminded me of my aunt. It reminded me that I wanted to be a lawyer to help people like her, searching for a chance at unity with their families. I had hoped this internship would give me some clue as to what I wanted to do with my life, and it did. Being in the office, doing research, and learning bits and pieces about immigration gave me a feeling, reminding me that my experience as an Eritrean living freely in the U.S. has made law my calling. That feeling—a sense that I wasn’t just doing work, but I was doing good—is the reason I want to be a lawyer. I realize now that my experience—my family’s fight, my passion, my heart for immigration—makes a career in law my purpose. This internship has made me feel more confident in my career choice.” ~ Lewhat (Summer RISE Intern 2023)

We are proud to be part of the Summer Rise program. Our dedication to community involvement and supporting aspiring legal professionals lead us to participate in this initiative. We understand the significance of nurturing young talent and providing them the opportunities to explore their interests in the legal field. Through this program, we envision positively impacting the lives of these ambitious individuals by offering mentorship, practical experience, and educational resources to students from various backgrounds.
