The Law Office of Edward W. Neufville, III celebrates Black History Month ~
We are celebrating Black History! The Law Office of Edward W. Neufville, III, LLC is proud to profile and share with you the tremendous efforts of Honorable Mia Amor Mottley.
The Honorable Mia Amor Mottley was born on October 1, 1965 in Barbados. She is the current Prime Minister and leader of the Barbados Labor Party (BLP). She is the eighth person to hold the position of Prime Minister and the first woman to hold either position. In 2018, Honorable Mia Amor Mottley won all 30 seats in the House of Assembly and nearly 75% of the popular vote; the largest margin in Barbados’ electoral history. In 2022, along with the Barbados Labor Party, Honorable Mia Amor Mottley, repeated the previous victory winning all 30 seats in the House of Assembly.
During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Honorable Amor Mottley introduced the 12-month Barbados Welcome Stamp Visa to the world. This visa allowed visitors the opportunity to stay in and work remotely from Barbados for a year with possible extensions. This effort helped ease the complications of short-term travel during that time and in turn contributed to the creation/retention of jobs for locals on the Island. The Welcome Stamp Visa program created a new platform for ‘remote workers’ to trade-in their “offices” for one in beautiful Barbados given its strong broadband services and stable infrastructure.
In the past year, Honorable Mia Amor Mottley, a self-described Pan Africanist (one who believes that peoples of African descent have common interests and should be unified) has opened an Embassy in Ghana and a Consulate in Kenya. During COVID-19’s heavy surge, Honorable Mia Amor Mottley and the Honorable Nana Akuffo Addo (President of Ghana), arranged to have Ghanaian nurses travel to Barbados to help support the COVID-19 crisis in Barbados.
In 2021, Honorable Amor Mottley fearlessly challenged discussions about the global finance system at the UN Climate Change Conference. She pushed for the creation of a loss and damages fund to support developing countries and boldly suggested that countries most responsible for climate change should contribute significantly towards countries suffering from it.
Of Note: Honorable Amor Mottley attended the United Nations International School(New York, New York), as did our Chief Operating Officer, Ms. Bahia Akerele, MSW

Ms. Caroline Wanga was born in Nairobi, Kenya, immigrating to Minnesota in 1988 with her family. Ms. Wanga has a degree in Business Administration from Texas College. Ms. Wanga’s work and personal mission center around being who you are and presenting that “self” to the world. This notion is captured in a quote from Ms. Wanga that says “Who you are is Non-Negotiable. If you cannot be who you are, where you are, you change where you are, not who you are.”
Prior to her current role, Ms. Wanga, then Senior Vice President, was instrumental in leading Target’s inclusivity and diversity initiatives and restructuring Target’s organizational culture. Ms. Wanga is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Essence Communications Inc. and Chief Growth Officer of Essence Ventures. Ms. Wanga joined the Essence team in June 2020 with a focus on building brands that resonate with and uplift customers from diverse backgrounds with an emphasis on people of color.
During the height of COVID-19, Essence created the ESSENCE Benefit Series to Fight COVID-19 to aid Black-owned small businesses. With strict adherence to COVID-19 protocols, Essence also curated a hybrid experience for their 2021 festival; giving local Black businesses the opportunity to promote their business while staying safe and socially distant. After a two year hiatus, The Essence Festival is scheduled to return this summer. Ms. Wanga is hopeful that it’s return will encourage sentiments of joy, celebration, culture, equity and a deep appreciation of Black communities.
